Dear SPARC Members and Friends of SPARC:

As you have seen on the various news sources, the campaign is rapidly heating up, with only three more months to run.  We have been pleased to have registered two or three Republicans during each of the first few times at the Farmers Market, and at the same time enjoying lots of appreciation, thumbs up, and "thanks for being there" from our fellow Republicans.  The best part is that several of those registrations were brand new voters, and some were Independents and Dems who were changing party!  Then last week things really picked up.  By the end of three hours, we had registered no less than TEN Republicans!  In over thirty years of doing grassroots work around here, I've never seen a pace like that before.  And lots of folks stopped by to take a bumper sticker, or a window sign or small sticker, and several signed up to help elect McCain.  We are going to set up a second table this coming Thursday, to try for even more success.

I've attached the signup schedule for our regular Thursday table at the Farmers Market in downtown Los Altos, 3:30 to 6:30 P.M. at 2nd and State Street.  I hope that you can find a slot that's just right for you.  If so, please email me via the Contact Us page or call the SPARC phone to leave me a message.

I've also attached the schedule for our booth at the Los Altos Art and Wine Festival on July 12th and 13th.  We'll have SPARCies, Stanford GOP interns, and volunteers from the County HQ as well, so it will be a lot of fun.  To sign up for that event, call me as above until July 8th, or contact Carol Morrison at SVGOP HQ any time.

This is truly an election of historic impact on the direction of our country.  I hope you'll be able to join us in working to build a better future for America.  You'll be glad you did.

To All SPARCies and Friends of SPARC:

With the final days of the bitter Democrat battle now upon us, it looks likely that Barack Obama will be opposing John McCain for the presidency.  The race is currently a dead heat and we need to change that by motivating every single Republican to register to vote and be involved in a positive campaign that will elect John McCain.

I would strongly suggest to every Republican (and all thinking Democrats), be you liberal, conservative, middle of the road, moderate, or ultra right or left wing extremist, that we must now come together and work to elect John McCain in the fall.  One of the best ways to help elect a candidate is the old-fashioned process of registering your voters, handing out printed material, and eventually walking neighborhoods as the election nears.

We at SPARC have enjoyed working with each other while helping in this way for many years, and we always do have fun in the process. This year's election ranks as the most important in memory, so I'm asking each of you to try to find a small amount of time in your schedule to join us in our SPARC grassroots volunteer activities.  We will have a table set up at the Los Altos Farmers Market beginning this Thursday June 5th, and each Thursday through the summer, from 3:30 P.M. until 6:30 or so.  We'll be registering Republicans, and we have McCain material to give out, as well as information on other races.  Other opportunities will arise this summer, and just prior to the election.

If you would like to join me on our grassroots committee, whether for one hour or several, please email me via the Contact Us page with your phone number, to add your name to my list of potential helpers.

Many thanks,

Dick Blanding
Past President, SPARC
